Chelsea Greenwich Village Association Incorporates as a Not-for-Profit Social Club

New York, February 15, 2005:  On February 1, 2005, the Chelsea Greenwich Village Association, Inc. (TCGVA) was officially incorporated in New York State as a not-for profit social club. TCGVA was founded by several current and former residents of the New York City West Side neighborhoods known as Chelsea and Greenwich Village.  After as many as forty years, several neighborhood originals were reunited at an April, 2004 reunion held at the former St. Bernard’s School on West 13th Street.  This encounter led to the formation of a Board of Directors charged with establishing the organization, composing its by-laws, and electing officers.

The purpose of TCGVA is to establish and maintain a not-for-profit social club that will facilitate the re-uniting of friends and colleagues from the above neighborhoods.  TCGVA’s primary focus is on philanthropic and social interaction among its members who are interested in giving back to the community in which they were born, raised, and, in many cases, educated.

Elections for Executive Committee offices were held at a charter membership meeting and the following officers were elected to the initial one-year term:

President:                                 Juan Espada

Executive Vice President            Bill Smith

Vice President at Large              Patrick J. Crowley

Vice President at large               Brian P. Sullivan

Regional VP/South                    Jim Napuli

Regional VP/NY Metro               Ray Serina

Regional VP/North & West         Nestor (‘Kookie’) Pereria

Treasurer                                  Martha Demers

Secretary                                  Joseph Dean

TCGVA maintains communications with its members via its website http://home.nyc.rr.com/chelseastbernard/csb.htm and a monthly newsletter.

During its first year of operation, TCGVA plans to hold one or more social events that will bring together scores of former neighborhood residents in order to foster its goals. To this end, the organization has several standing committees ─ the Development Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Social Events Committee ─ designed to help TCGVA achieve its mission and efficiently conduct its ongoing activities. Charter membership, which will be open until March 31, 2005, is available to anyone interested in helping the organization pursue its goals.

For more information about becoming a member of TCGVA, contact Juan Espada at jespada@nyc.rr.com, Bill Smith at bballpar @hotmail.com or Joe Dean at joseph.dean@thegarden.com.
