"My roots in Chelsea go back to 1912 when my grandfather started DeMartino's Fish Market on 8th Avenue between 16th & 17th Streets. So much of my growing up in the neighborhood revolved around the family business. We are frequently in Manhattan because my two children live there, one on the upper west side and the other on the upper east side.  When I ride through Chelsea and the Village I often think of the many and varied experiences growing up there and the friendships that were formed: playing stoop ball, stick ball, touch football on 15th and 19th Streets while always dodging the traffic, our sandlot football team, the Chelsea Chargers, and the trips to play in Clove lake Park in Staten Island (God's Country to us at the time), the softball games on Saturdays up in Central Park and all our adventures as altar boys at Xavier.  A group of
us have stayed in touch all these years and this has been very special for me."
